From Chris: I was getting ready to release Niche Profit Course version 2 in November (updated for 2012 with new case studies / strategies) when I got an email from one of my students – Kent Chow. He let me know that he had just made more than $4,000 with Amazon’s affiliate program in Novemember and wanted to thank me for releasing the Niche Profit Course. I love getting emails like these especially since Kent only bought Niche Profit Course in March of 2011 and he hit the $4,000 mark in a single month in under a year. Kent is not a typical student, but he does show what is possible when you focus your efforts on one specific area instead of being distracted by every shiny ball that hops along. He wanted to write a guest post about what his mindset strategies and what helped him to get such great results.
Every Amazon Associates like to reach their income goals, be successful, and get an Amazon payback month after month. What really makes the difference among them? The skills and tools? And the niche? I will share my secrets (success story) with you so you, too, can be successful.
Who am I? I’ve been following Chris’ blog since June 2010 and a proud student of his Niche Profit Course. Joining Chris NPC in March was one of the best decisions I have made on my online business journey. I had my first sale in May, 3-digit in Oct and 4K+ earning from Amazon in Nov 2011:
In order to be successful, I have been keeping a positive mind-set and a focus on one business model to help grow my monthly paycheck from Amazon. I hope this would inspire you to become a prosperous one.
Say NO to these 4 killers:
1. I cant!
How many times have you heard about this inside yourself? I cant do this; I cant do that. Stop saying this to yourself. You cant do it because you really cant? In most cases is not “I can’t “, but “I don’t want to”. As long as you put your mind in doing something, then you can do it, no matter how hideous the task is.
2. Its not much!
Yes, Amazon Affiliate commission starts as 4% which is not much. However, everything adds up. When you ship out 7 items or more, you get 6%. Shipping out 630+ items will get you 8%. Indeed, comparing to Clickbank Affiliate and Adsense payout, you could experience as high as 10% conversation rate. Every little bit does add up.
3. It doesnt work!
If it doesnt work, how come thousands of Amazon Associates are making hundreds and thousands every month? There are many business models out there. Amazon Affiliate is just one that worked well for me. Why not make it work for you? Why are you chasing THE next online business idea one after another?
4. Its too difficult!
No pain, no gain. Indeed, internet marketing is not a rocket science. If you break the process and steps down task by task, its not that hard as you imagine. Simple walking away would not get where you want to be.
Instead, fill yourself up with a positive mind-set and start saying YES:
1. I can!
Trust and be confident in yourself is the first step to get you to take actions today. You know more than enough. No matter how big your goal or dream is, you can!
2. I set and REACH my goals Set your goals little by little; one at a time. Take your time to define one, schedule and take action to reach it.
I set my daily and monthly financial goal, but it wont get me there without taking actions. Instead, I set measurable goals like writing one product review every 2 days, build 10 backlinks everyday, or build 2 product review sites a month etc.
3. Im working on and finishing this!
Reading blog posts, studying ebooks, watching video training wont get you to reach your goals unless you do something with the information you’ve learned. Get off your butt and work on a task one by one. This is all you need to complete your project in schedule.
Sometimes it may take longer than you plan to complete a task like writing a product review, create backlinks, and customize your WordPress theme. Or you may hit road-blocker and dont even know how.
There are tons of free information out there to unblock yourself. Google search, read, and do it piece-by-piece.
4. Im learning and growing everyday.
There is a lot that we dont know; We dont even know what we dont know. Thats ok.
As an aspiring Amazon Affiliate, you just keep learning on daily basis. Its totally okay to make mistakes as they are your best teachers. Would you tell me which profitable internet marketers didnt make any mistake?
You dont need to know all steps perfect to get your niche sites out and make your sales. You are not failing, you are just one step closer to your success. Each of us have to take baby-steps in order to get to where we want. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and it will certainly require us to work hard to achieve our goals.
Did I miss any successful mindsets that you would like to share with us? Which one is your favorite one?
From Chris: I will echo what Kent said. This business model really isn’t rocket science but it does take concentrated work on a few very specific tasks. If you’d like to buy Niche Profit Course you can do it here. Whatever you decide to do, pick one thing to focus on and go after that.
Well done Kent. I had my first sales this month after purchasing the Niche Profit Course, and although it was only 11 it shows that there is potential with Amazon Associates.
Great Work.
Yes, a lot of potential!
Congratulations! It is always inspiring to hear the success stories. I like your take on breaking it down to smaller steps, I know I can get overwhelmed by the process.
I am one month into the NPC process and it seems to be going well, lots of learning. It is nice to have the course there for reference as I progress too.
Again, well done and I hope you have continued success.
Tom, nice to see you taking the big step to dig into NPC. I’d love to see you build the first site with the Azon theme and make your first sale.
After that, you have all traffic data in Google Analytics and Amazon Account to optimize and grow even further.
I look forward to hearing your success with NPC too.
Holy crap. $4,000 in a month is incredible! Congrats on that.
I’ve been making about $100-$150 a month with Amazon Associates. I just checked and I’ve made $120.41 so far for January. It’s a far cry from $4,000, but it’s still a number I’m really happy with on a blog that is only a few months old and doesn’t get a ton of traffic. I haven’t bought the Niche Profit Course but it does look pretty cool.
As a fairly new blog, $100 Commission from Amazon is very good. As the blog traffic grows, more sales and income will be on your way.
amazon is really one of the best thing that happen to the internet marketing world…and $4.000 is make it more better 😀
I’m trying to get there also with my website…nice shoot Kent!
Good post. Great earnings! I agree with what you say, and can only add that it doesn’t matter how fast you run it, but that you finish the race.
I just completed my first site using Chris’s Niche V2 course and his Azon theme. I’ve gotten more traffic and comment on it than I ever had.
$4000!? Talk to me in November after Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
Way ta go, Kent!
John, I love your quote “it doesnt matter how fast you run it, but that you finish the race.”
Also keep running race after race (I guess it’s about building one niche site, then another one in this scenario.)
Keep driving traffic and growing your site search ranking, I am sure that you will have a fat check in Nov/Dec.
Kent Congrats on reaching $4,000 in November after just 8 months, that is truly remarkable and very encouraging.
How many hours a week did you work to attain this?
Neale, I’m here to inspire other NPC classmates. It’s do-able and takes dedication. 🙂
I was working like 5-10 hours a week after 9-to-5 full time. Amazon closed down the CA Affiliate programs from July to Early Oct. I was spending most of time driving traffic and working on my Adsense sites during the summer.
Now, I am building many new Niche Sites and grow them as Authority sites. I hope I could hit home-run in Nov/Dec again. 🙂
Wow, Kent made a lot of progress. I’ll definitely check out the Niche Profit Course.
Love hearing other people succeed, I haven’t really used Amazon as much as I want to because I’m making money online in other ways, but want to add Amazon as one of my income sources, even at only 4% (or 6, 8 and 10) it definitely adds up like you mentioned, Amazon sells for billions of dollars every year, so you can make a lot.
Jamie, Amazon Affiliate is very easy to implement. You could promote related books and physical products on your sites.
Kent,
Thanks for taking to time to write this and Chris thanks for posting it.
Inspiring results, Kent!
Are those November earnings just from one site?
Ag, I have many mini and authority sites. I have about 5 sites contributing to that income. I’m building many new ones recently and hope to have a few more Authority style sites this year.
The potential is non-limited.
Thanks for answering, Kent.
What do you consider an authority site? Also, what would you recommend as the most effective method of getting backlinks?
An authority site is something that people trust and would love to take the recommendation and revisit. In NPC, Chris has a very good sample and demo with Azon theme on.
For me, it’s kind of a site about 10 to 20 well written product review posts. I am growing mine and post 1-2 new posts every week.
For the most effective method, is do PR and write guest posts in your niche. Chris has some goodies about backlinking inside NPC. I do various backlinking like article marketing, web 2.0, social bookmarking.. the key is to diversify and let Google trust yours.
Just read. Congrats! I wrapped up a coaching call last week with Chris Guthrie, he is doing some good stuff. How many sites did you start with? Which keyword tool are you up to? After just under a year, how many niches are you into now? I want to print and copy your story and use as motivation everyday. Thanks
Let me know what you learned in the coaching call if you don’t mind.
I started with one when I was going through NPC in March 2011. That was a failure as not much traffic, and I made a few sales.. like $10 commission.
I use Longtail Pro which is featured on my blog. Just get something that you like and familiar with. All keyword tools are similar and have Pros and Cons.
I am into more than 10 product niches and still expanding. I buy stuff online and love learning different niches. I’d suggest you to go with high demand and ever-green ones. (They are competitive though). Volume is a number game.
As my guest post said, it’s all about mindset and you just focus, be patient, and dedicate to whatever you do. Chris, your next success is just a mile away.
I am curious as to how long it took you before you started making a profit from at least one of your websites.
Lela, I had my first sale in 2 months after taking NPC. Since then, I on-going build niche sites and grow my traffic. Obviously Nov and Dec were the most profitable months due to the shopping seasons.
My recent income report showed that the traffic and sales slow down a little bit. Meanwhile, I’m building new ones and try to grow some as Authority sites as what Chris taught in NPC.
[…] was posted online by Chris. I was busy to catch up the comments and traffic from the guest post http://www.makemoneyontheinternet.com/4000-month-with-amazon-in-under-1-year-student-results/ fifth week – this is very non-productive as I was busy with my full time work and work after […]
Hi Kent, Its really nice of you to share your experience here. Its great to know that Amazon pays so much. Usually the feeling is that the commission rates are very low and people stay away from them.
I think it would be great if you could do a follow up post detailing what you have done to achieve the $4000 mark.
Thanks.
Hi Sammy,
Yes, it’s a number game and once you have good amount of order via Amazon affiliate, the commission just adds up.
Chris has a lot of great post about Amazon Affiliate on this blog, I learned so much from them. Also feel free to check out Niche Profit Classroom which is my step by step blueprint.
Great blog post suggestion. I plan to have a serious of posts about niche site building on mine. Thanks!
What great success! I didn’t think it was possible to make that much with Amazon, but you are making it seem doable!
Hey Kent –
Thanks for the inspirational post. Love to see “students” doing so well using things they learned in courses. Now I gotta learn how to make awesome amazon niche sites like you have. I’m sure I’ll figure it out one of these days. Thanks for sharing.
James, I’d suggest to focus, be patient, and executing the steps persistently. It works!
Thanks for the tip Kent. I think I really do need to focus and do the steps consistently. That’ll help for sure. I got the patient down pat but I just need to get my sites moving forward and profiting more.
Kent. Great post on the amazing potential that the Amazon Associate program can have for many affiliates. It is really difficult to match the breadth and depth of products that Amazon sells. If you are a salesman, your mouth probably waters thinking about the possibilities. One downside to Amazon is the of course the 24 hour cookie that the affiliate links drop when someone follows one of your links. Even though that is not a lot of time, Amazon still makes up for it by their ability to convert anyone to a buyer once on the site. They probably have spent billions on studying buyer behavior and how to increase conversions of anyone one the site even if they are just educating themselves instead of shopping.
Thanks for the post Kent, a positive mindset is the key between success and failure!
I’m working on an authority site and a niche site now, and am growing it by adding content daily, until I feel like it has enough for me to start feeding traffic to the site (I feel that article writing is my strength, so I mostly concentrate on that).
I also have plenty of niche ideas that I have lined up in the future, but I’m pacing myself so that I don’t get overwhelmed and/or bored with it (I get bored easily) LOL.
Actually, that’s the thing with IM…you can never run out of things to promote!
Here’s to everyone here being successful in 2012 and beyond!
Very nice Jessie, it’s great that you enjoy writing articles. I’d suggest you to build backlinks to your new articles on daily basis. It will help on getting traffic from search engine.
May you have a great 2012 in IM too!
[…] In case you don’t know me much, I have more success with Amazon Affiliate in 2011, please feel free to check out my First Guest Post – $4,000 Month With Amazon In Under 1 Year (Student Results) […]
I bought this course a while ago but never even started it! This has given me the impetus to get started.
I would kill to make $4000 per month. Hopefully I won’t have to go that far if the course is an good.
Kent,
Can you kindly share one of your amazon sites?
Sheyi
Sheyi, probably not. I have enough competition to compete and rank on my product niches. (They are in demand, so do the competition.)
I’d suggest you to check out those Live Examples in Chris’ Niche Profit Course. I have been following those models and try to get as good as they are.
If you wanna get reference, mirror and go from the best.
I am working on as an Amazon affiliate and I have just one niche blog in which I’m promoting Amazon products but I never made any sale, never made a sing;e dollar. I don’t have money to buy online profit course.
Congratulations to you Kent
Ehsan, I’d suggest you to read those most popular Chris’ posts here. They are free and you could pick some great tips and go implement today.
At least you shall add images and different anchor text to link to your Amazon Affiliate links on your Product Niche Blog. Thanks!
Your profits are amazing. I think you are right saying stick to one thing only..now if only I can make a decision what I want to stick to. Every time I think about it..I get lost in my sea of thoughts thinking how long it will take for each project to take off or how much marketing I will have to do before I see a return, Guess all business will be the same no matter what…just have to Start Somewhere..
Thanks for the read and inspiration!
Yah deciding what to work on is tough. I don’t really focus on just one thing as I have probably close to 20 different income streams I’m getting money from right now.
It’s nice, but who knows – perhaps if I just had one income stream it could be much larger.
Thanks Kent,
You make some a good point here about also actually doing things with the info you learned. Although it can be great to study the right techniques for getting successful online, eventually for getting actual results indeed finishing things is important.
Also developing an – I Can – mindset can be very helpful.
It is absolutely incredible how much you can make using the amazon affiliate program. Honestly I am happy using this as the only means of monetizing my blogs as it has honestly earned me more than any crappy ads provider and doesn’t look bad scattered over your blog.
[…] 7: $4,000 in One Month […]
Hi , kent good income but i observed that your commission rate is around 13% . mine is 2.5% as i have a computer blog so that gives me very less money but still i have earned a lot of money in past three months even i had launched my site 8 months ago . i suddenly made $45 in august and $43 in september and in october until now date 10th i have made $56 . hope will earn around $100 this month even my traffic is low around 200-250 visitors per day
Sarfraz, thanks for leaving your comments. I think you are on right track to hit $100 in the near future.
Keep adding fresh content and networking with other blogs in your niche.
Thank you for the positive article. I remember when I started online marketing I thought I will never make any sales. but the idea is if you work the good way you will be making good money online.
Hello Kent your income is too inspiring mine is bit low having a blog related to computers gaming build so far made a single sale and earned a commision of 15$. To be frank seeing such a small amount after a hard work of 3 month made me down but seeing your article really inspired me and made me back to grow up… Thanx for inspiring…
