Best Blogroll is a WordPress plugin designed to share link juice to your blogroll partners more efficiently. I’m not a professional SEO, but most SEO’s agree that Google provides less value to site wide links than to a single do follow link. So I came up with an idea for a WordPress plugin to help remedy this issue and I’m releasing it for free here.
Best Blogroll Explained:
The default plugin setting is how the WordPress blogroll currently works. Every link is followed and most SEO’s agree these links are discounted by Google. The recommended option is to use Best Blogroll so that the rel=”nofollow” tag is on blogroll links for every page of the blog except the home page. This allows you to pass link juice from only the home page like I’ve shown below (recommended). There is another option that allows you to set the no follow tag to apply to all blogroll links on every page so that you don’t pass out any link juice via your blogroll links (greedy).
FYI: Using the no follow tag in a link means Google doesn’t pass any value “link juice” for the link
Free Download:
This plugin is available for free here simply right click and save as: Best Blogroll Plugin Download
Install Instructions:
1. Download the plugin file and upload it to your plugins directory within WordPress
2. Activate the plugin
3. Adjust the settings via the Links > NoFollow Settings section within your WordPress admin panel
Support:
I mentioned above that I came up with the idea of this plugin, but I am not a coder so I commissioned my good friends over at Website Design to create this for me. They’ve also graciously offered to provide a support forum should you find any bugs. I’ve already personally tested this on several of my own blogs without issue so I doubt you’ll have any problems.
Wrap Up:
I suggest you install this on your blog and share it with other bloggers that already link to you from a blogroll – that way you offer higher value links from your blog and receive higher value links from the blogs already linking to you! In any case, what do you think of “my” first WordPress plugin? If you found this plugin helpful feel free to retweet this article or link to this post on your blog. Enjoy!
Thanks Chris! This plugin looks great. Always appreciate new free tools to help us make money online.
This is really a great plugin, it helps get rid of those annoying wordpress.com links.
Thanks a lot for sharing,

Very interesting plug-in, will probably write about it for tomorrow.

Thanks Justin – yah my hope is that people that link to me would use it so I get a more powerful link and if everyone else starts to use it hopefully it will spread.
I can confirm it does work with WordPress 3.0 as well.
I’ll give the plug-in a try though I’m quite skeptical as to it’s safety as it’s not in the wordpress repository.

I’m going to add it later, I just wanted to get feedback etc. by releasing it here first.
So I’ve installed it and it’s working just fine though I would have liked the option to dofollow some links and nofollow others.

I thought of that, but if you really want to no follow someone on your blog roll and not others I think you should just remove the person that you want to no follow anyway. I think it would have required too much coding to bother doing this.
I guess you’re right. Why add a link to a blogroll if you’ll only end up nofollowing it? Thanks again 😉
P.S: Do please install the subscribe to comments plugin. Gracias

Testing a response to see if you get the email 🙂
It works just fine. One more important thing Chris.
You need to uncheck the Join my newsletter to get a free eBook, 3 WordPress themes and exclusive tips by default.
Right now, by default, it’s checked and whenever I forget to uncheck it when commenting, it leads to my getting emails from you asking me to confirm my subscription.

Fixed it. Good call 🙂
[…] Chris Guthrie from Make Money On The Internet emailed me about a new plugin he developed called Best Blogroll. […]
Awesome plugin! But i have some concerns.. i don’t agree with your assertion that google discounts blogroll links that have links in all the pages. A case in example is this site “eyecreamreviews (dot)com”. it has almost all its backlinks of 3,000+ from a blogroll on a site called “healthcarevox(dot)com” and its ranks 1st on google for a keyterm eye cream, a very well searched term!
I installed it, made it so all my blog links do NOT use nofollow, yet my blog links are still “nofollow”…
Not sure why it would do that. I have the newest version of wordpress…
Mike
Ok, when I have it set to Not use “nofollow” on any link it works for the Home page, but it does a “nofollow” on all the rest of the pages…
Just an update…
Mike
Yah it’s supposed to do follow on the home page and no follow on the rest of the pages… perhaps I’m confused by what you’re looking for though.
These are the 3 options to choose from:
-Don’t use nofollow on any blogroll links
-Use nofollow on all blogroll links
-Use nofollow if current page is not home
I chose option 1 and it sill puts the “nofollow” on all pages except for home…
It’s ok I was just thinking option 1 would take the nofollow out of all pages…
MIke
Hey I installed the plugin and checked don’t use nofollow but it still using nofoolwo see my blog http://dazz.in
plz help !
