How Elite Retreat Helped Me Triple My Income After Getting Fired From My Day Job

Shoemoney is the guy behind the Elite Retreat event and registration for the next event opens to the public on June 14th at 10:00 AM CST. After re-reading my old Elite Retreat review I thought I’d write the follow up blog post that I said I would but never did. So this is the follow up to my original Elite Retreat review from an attendee’s perspective who got fired just 2 weeks after attending Elite Retreat in New York back in late 2009.

Why I Went To Elite Retreat:

I used to spend my free time after working a 9 – 5 job building websites while trying to find ways to make enough money to quit my day job. After numerous failures and moderate successes I started doing pretty well starting in early 2009. By the fall of 2009 I was earning around $5k – $7k in profit per month from the organic traffic I was receiving which was at the time more money than my 50+ hours a week high stress sales job was providing me. I went to Elite Retreat because I’d already read several positive reviews and I was at a stage in my business where I wanted to find out how I could take my income to the next level.

I had an opportunity to have meaningful conversations with almost every attendee at the event (something that never happens at most conferences). I can’t share any of the specific strategies I learned that I later implemented into my business thanks to the NDA, but as I left New York to head back to Seattle, I knew that my money was well spent.

Getting Fired Two Weeks Later:

After I returned from Elite Retreat I was fired from my day job just 2 weeks later. I wasn’t planning on quitting for at least a few months but plans change. I was making too much money to claim unemployment (not a bad thing obviously) and with the money I was making it didn’t make a lot of sense to go find another career job. At that point, I decided that this was a blessing in disguise. I had already begun implementing strategies into my various websites that the speakers and attendees shared with me and by the end of the year I had already doubled my monthly income (seasonality did play some factor, but after the holidays my income still remained higher than average).

How Elite Retreat Helped Me Sell My First Website For Six Figures:

In my first full year of self employment in 2010 I more than tripled my old day job income through a combination of the ongoing advice and conversations I had with past attendees and through an intro to an investment banker that I received from a past Elite Retreat attendee. The investment banker generally only sold websites in the seven figure range and up but he said, “Because you’re from Elite Retreat, I know it’s only a matter of time before you’ll need my services again for an even bigger sale.” A few months later I had my first six figure website sale (website sale details here).

Why Elite Retreat Was Well Worth The Price:

If it weren’t for the people I met at Elite Retreat I probably wouldn’t have sold my website for six figures last year, more than tripled my old day job income and I probably wouldn’t be in the position that I am today. So for that I publicly thank you Shoemoney and my fellow Elite Retreat alumni.
