I receive several emails every day from people with various backgrounds and technical skill levels asking a wide range of questions. One of the questions I hear fairly often comes from people that have little to no technical skills and they’re often frozen by the steps required to create and set up a self hosted WordPress blog. So, I’ve decided to offer services to help beginners set up their first blogs and to kick it off I’m offering the service for just $1. (If you’re not a beginner and don’t need technical help, feel free to stop reading this post now. I’ll have something else more up your alley later this week)

Introducing Blog Set Up Services
I’ve already worked with several people to steer them in the right direction on how to get started blogging, but I want to take it one step further and do everything for you. This service is aimed at people that don’t have web hosting yet and simply want a self hosted WordPress blog completely set up for them. For a limited time I’ll be offering this service for just $1.
Why $1 and Why Not Free?
I’ve decided to charge $1 because I want people to make the commitment to go through the steps of getting their first WordPress self hosted blog set up for them. If I offer this service for free then people are less inclined to go through with it.
What does this service include?
I will set up your WordPress blog, install critical WordPress plugins and install your choice of a free WordPress theme for just $1 (see full details and extra options here). All you need to do is sign up through one of my recommended hosting providers: BlueHost or HostGator (Use only coupon code chrisguthrie at HostGator) and then pre pay for 1 year of hosting service. I receive a commission for referring you to a hosting provider and this is how I can offer this set up service for just $1. Web hosting is something you need to buy if you want to take this business serious anyway and when you buy through my link you’re helping me out and I can in turn help you out. Win Win.
I offer extra services that can be tied into the blog set up and they include a premium WordPress theme from Woo Themes along with setting up your newsletter service from start to finish and installing it on your blog. (see extra services here)
Why can’t I just stick to my free blogging account?
If you don’t own the platform you are building your business on you will always run the risk of losing everything you worked for (I’ve read stories about people having their blogs shut down for some obscure rule violation etc). It’s nearly impossible to sell a freely hosted blog later on and it’s also difficult to sell private advertising on a free blog as well. There are numerous reasons why a free blogging account isn’t enough, but the bottom line is that if you want to be taken serious and truly make money with a blog you need to be hosting the blog yourself.
How do I order?

Still have questions? Well, if you’re already checked out the blog services page and you still have questions please contact me and I’d be happy to help.
Note: If you sign up through one of my recommended hosting providers and send me an email receipt I’ll set up your blog even if you don’t pay the $1. I just want to make sure people commit to taking the next step in developing their first self hosted blog and don’t flake out.
Hey Chris,
This is a pretty clever idea – similar to one I was going to launch, but you beat me to the punch. ๐ As far as I’m concerned though, this is win-win for you and the newbie blogger, so I definitely support what you’re doing.
– Eric
Hey Eric,
You could always do the same thing. I’m just offering this because I get emails about it all the time so I assume there are even more people with the same issue that don’t take the time to email me about it.
Chris
I know – I may still do it. I think what everyone (or at least, the non-newbies) REALLY wants to do is how you set up your Amazon niche sites…which I’m betting you’ll explain in your upcoming eBook.
Yes I’ll explain in some detail, but an eBook is very limited so what I’ll also be doing is offering a course that shows videos of how I build a site etc.
You are the man. It really is very clever and very cool. Who wouldn’t want this setting up their first blog? I would have loved it. ๐ You have to pay for hosting anyways… Why not have the help of a pro? Excellent post. Excellent Help! I’m sure you’ll do well offering these services.
Thanks Richard – so far no bites though which is a bit surprising to me. Then again, I didn’t send an email out to my list and I know more people on my list are less experienced than people that took the time to sign up via RSS.
Very good idea, I agree with charging as it weeds out the people who will give up after a bit.
Yah, we’ll see how it goes I suppose.
This is a win-win for everyone. The users get a cheap deal and you get a few bucks out of them not from their pocket.
Good idea on helping new people
Great idea, and for just a buck, it’s definitely worth it. While in my opinion it’s pretty easy to set up a blog.. I’m sure there are others that have no clue where to start. And let’s face it, we’re all busy people here so charging for your services is not at all wrong. You can’t always help everyone for free. Just $1 is nothing to pay …
Hope it works out for ya! I’m still learning about various things as well. Maybe in the future I’ll have enough experience in a certain area to charge for my services. ๐
Thnaks for sharing this Chris. You’re really willing to help a lot of newbies to set up a blog for just $1. And with your guidance, it would be easier for most newbies to set up a blog rather than them working on themselves alone.
Keep up the good work Chris!
Kind regards,
Gary
Hey chris,
I have visited your site for the first time and found that it’s really interesting and worth reading.Well, the idea of $1 service is really cool….
