Hey Chris,
The plugin looks awesome!
Have you ever used bit.ly for your affiliate links? If so how’d you find it? If not what do think of it?
Cheers.
Wes
Bit.ly is ok to track the number of clicks etc., but that’s actually a feature we’ve built into the WordPress plugin. So you can see how many times your links are shown and clicked! ๐
I like the plugin a lot, Chris. I’ll be honest – when I originally heard about this plugin from you, I was a bit confused/unsure about how it would actually provide value. Now, after reading this post’s explanation and really thinking about it, I think this is AWESOME, especially for affiliates who sell products that have coupon codes. It’s somewhat shocking that no one has thought of this plugin idea before.
I had no idea you had Crohn’s – sorry to hear that. My dad has Crohn’s, so I’ve grown up along side of someone who has had to deal with it, and I know that it sucks. I think that’s a genuinely respectable thing that you’re doing by donating the first month’s proceeds. I really hope you sell a lot of copies.
– Eric
Hey Eric,
Yah it was sort of hard for me to explain so I wanted to write a blog post outlining specifically why it’s helpful at securing commissions and earning you more money.
Yah, I’ve had Crohn’s since I was 10. Perhaps I’ll write another blog post later this month to talk about my experiences with it etc I actually had to get an emergency resection surgery 5 years ago or so to save my life (cut a section of my intestines out and then connect them again).
Thanks for the support! I should mention I’m not really trying to guilt people into buying the plugin lol. If it’s not for you don’t buy it ๐ I was just looking through my goals the other day and I hadn’t really done much to reach my goal of $10k donations this year.
Hey Chris,
First let me tell you I’m sorry to hear that you have Crohns disease….
But, on a lighter note. Awesome work coming up with the idea for the plugin. I think it is great. But, I was wondering about the big red coupon code order button. Does that one come with it too? It would be really cool if you were able to do something similar with that where you are could easily update the price and promo code displayed there, and also have it automatically copied when you click it too. It’s got a Christmas feel to it, so the timing is good. That’s the one that really drew my attention.
Hey Wes,
There are tons of styling options that you can choose from when you’re setting up the coupons (10 in all) so you can always pick one that fits your specific color scheme better than others. I just like the blue one for my blog. No worries about the Crohn’s heh heh – I feel much better now than I used to years ago.
Chris ๐
Chris,
Once again overdelivering. Thanks for being there pushing the boundaries for those of us and making it easier to learn and earn online.
Nat
Thanks Nat, let me know if you have any questions about the plugin or anything else just feel free to contact me via the contact link above ๐
Looks awesome Chris! Definitely something that the market need and I wish you the best of luck!
Looks pretty awesome, Chris. I assume it can be used in a widget, yes?
Actually, the plugin doesn’t have widget support just yet. How would you like to see that work? (perhaps we can include in a future update to the code)
i.e. You have a coupon code plugin widget and then you can select which coupons to display in the widget? Then in the widget you can set the title as “Coupon Deals” or something like that?
Yep, that’s pretty much what I was thinking. Because your plugin looks great but once the post gets lost in the archives, the coupon codes kind of get lost too (unless you have a “Coupons” page or something, but I wouldn’t want to have to do that). That’s why it would be nice to have a plugin.
And maybe there could be an optional little “Read more” link under each coupon code in the widget and you could specify what URL it would link to. This way, if you’ve got a coupon for, say, HostGator hosting, people could either click on the coupon code and it would take them to HostGator, or could click on the “Read more” that would take them to your blog post where you review HostGator hosting (and where the coupon code also is). Does that make any sense?
I dunno, maybe nobody other than me would want to use it, but that was the first thing that popped into my head.
You basically would like to be able to set an image as a coupon right? So you could put an image in your sidebar that is a coupon and then you get the functionality the plugin has now but you can create a cool looking image that is the plugin basically.
Yes. Setting an image as the coupon would be great!
Sorry if I missed this but can you use this plugin on more than one site; or is it limited to one?
For the initial launch we’ve set it up for use on unlimited sites; however, we’ve considered offering a multi site option after we raise the price from the initial launch phase though. So if you want to use it for multiple sites buy it now while the price is low ๐
You know we see this type of thing on coupon stores so this is a great thing to create for any wordpress site.
Love the plugin. Now I have to decide if I want to buy it ๐
That’s exactly where I got the idea for it. I know they’re all using in depth completely customized solutions so this one provides nearly the same functionality they have except now you get to use it on a blog for a cheap price ๐
Look’s great Chris, I’m wondering if it can generate the red coupon code button too.
Thanks!
Hmmm, are you saying that you like the huge image that I included in the blog post? Right now the coupon code styles that are available are all about the same size as the blue one that is in use on the blog.
Ok, maaayyybe the next version will have something like the blog post coupon?
I’ve sent an email over to the designer and coder to see what they think ๐
That’s the one I was talking about too. Perhaps we’re on to an Idea for future releases…. ๐
Thanks a ton for this plugin. I always hate it when I lose commissions because my visitors copy the coupon code w/o clicking on my link.
Hi Chris,
is it possible to integrate a counter, which count down how long the coupon is valid.
Andy
We’ll add this to the list of potential features for a future version, thanks for the suggestion!
My problem is that I can’t see your reference code when I go to the vendor site. I’m using Firefox 3.6.
The code is copied to the clickboard OK, but how would I know it was there?
You can customize the message when you hover over a coupon to be more clear i.e. “Click here to copy the code and see the deal” etc.
This is the same functionality that sites like RetailMeNot.com use and their visitors are able to figure it out though too.
Sorry, Chris, strike the last comment, I thought that the OIO affiliate line across the top was part of the plugin. The problem I see is that the tooltip is not really enough to tell people the coupon is now in their clipboard ready for them to use when they arrive at the site, but obviously that could be easily surmounted by putting an extra line in the copy.
Tony
Oops already responded to your last comment. Yes you’re right you can customize the tool tip to make it more clear.
Great post I seriously would need to think how I can put this into use. I don’t think this has hit the uk Market yet and I am keen to implement this on my site.
Thanks again for the great post
Hi Chris,
I would like to buy your plugin, but i want to know first if the tooltip and button text can be used in other languages than english ?
Thanks
John
Yah, this should be possible. Want to email me some sample text you’d like me to try? The code should run the same regardless of language.
Chris
Hi Chris,
I would like to be able to toggle between click and click to reveal and copy code..Its a very nice an handy plugin but…
You will still loose commission when its a short couponcode like ah1234.People mostly are already in the shopping cart and will just type in the code instead of opening the merchantsite again..
I`,m willing to pay you double for your plugin if you can implement this feature..
Regards.
Pete….
So you’d like an option to say “Click to Reveal And Copy Code” but then when people click it just opens in the new browser and they can simply press control + v to paste it in? Please confirm that’s what you’re referring to and get back to me. The other thing is that you can email me via the contact form above and I’d be happy to take the feature to our developers.
Chris
Hey Chris,
Been meaning to bookmark your site sinced I picked up your course the other day. (I was the one that mentioned maybe creating videos on how to layout a site depending on the niche you’re in – heavy on products like amazon, ebay, etc or a site that has more info than products).
Anyway, a random thought I had was maybe implementing some sort of redirect into the plug-in if possible that would flash across the screen momentarily on the way to the merchant’s site. The screen would tell the customer that the coupon code was already copied and all they had to do was right click/paste the coupon code before they purchase.
It would look like this: http://www.pokerdatamining.net/goto/test.php (this isn’t my site, it’s a friends, I just did the design for it). But once the customer clicked on the coupon code box generated by your plug-in, a screen such as the example I provided would pop up informing the customer that all they needed to do was right click/paste.
It might be too much to implement – I don’t know. In regards to the plug-in, there would definitely be more needed from the webmaster in terms of set up too. There might also be concerns about conversions too due to time, but I think that could be resolved by shortening the time that the page is up.
Anyway, just a thought…starting to ramble now. I’ll definitely pick up the plug-in onces my paypal account is topped off again.
Great job!
The developers have been watching the comments here for ideas and I think they’re going to implement some new features and then the price will go up to $37. I think one of the features is something similar to this (or at least the same sort of effect)
This plugin is good tool for many people.
I still trying to use it in my website.
But there are something need to be improved.
If you use 10-50 coupon, it’s ok. But if number of coupon codes is over 100…
When you writing a post, you have to go to “coupon code” section to add coupon, then you go to your post, choose coupons in coupon list (it’s time-assuming task to find coupon in this list if you have added over 100 coupons). So, you should add “add coupon code” field below writing post section, so people can add coupon code and insert added coupons in post.
1.
As someone say about count down timer feature, it a good feature should be added to this plugin. It is good for one time offer or exclusive offer.
2.
This plugin should have options to add button “Use this coupon” and “Get this deal” like offers.com next to coupon code, and be able to create a box show price and save money (if available) as offers.com. It will make this plugin more powerful and flexible.
Chris,
What are the main differences between your plugin and WPcoupon?
Thanks,
Mike
