Over the past couple years I’ve bought tens of thousands of dollars worth of websites outside the typical auction scenario. This method takes a lot of time to find websites worth buying (because you’re talking to people who often aren’t even interested in selling). So late last year I wanted to find ways to get more active in buying websites and specifically to try and make more sense out of Flippa.
Site Finder Pro Finished (5 Months In The Making)
So I spoke with the guys at Flippa and got permission to create a software tool designed to help make the research process on Flippa faster. This isn’t a due diligence replacement, but it does provide a bunch of data about a website without having to do more in depth digging. Here’s the sales / demo video which covers a little bit more about why I created this tool:

How I Recommend Using The Tool
Beyond just looking at active auctions, determining how the site makes money, where it gets links from and just saving time on research (which is the primary purpose of the tool). I’m also going to be viewing auctions that have ended, then researching that URL to see what other sites the person may own and contacting them about sites they haven’t put on auction yet. (There are a few other tactics I’ll be employing as well)
Overall there are a lot of ways to buy websites and this tool is just one solution towards helping you speed up the time in evaluating websites worth buying.
For those that buy, please feel free to share your suggestions for improvement. We’ve already done one major free upgrade to make it even better.
Awesome idea! Hope it does well for you.
Whoa you’re alive! Hah, just joking lol. I never see you posting on your blog, but obviously if you’re so focused on your eCommerce biz anything else is just a distraction.
This is very helpful.. I am just lucky that I have found the post here especially it can help me how to find websites to buy on flippa..
Actually I see the website doesn’t look smooth and the design is amateur. It will need a lot of improvements to get good sales. It’s just my opinion.
Good luck anyways. ๐
I think the design turned out pretty well and I also think the functionality that is built in is most important anyway…
good luck..flippa is not that well known
Flippa is practically the only established marketplace for buying and selling websites. The rest of the other websites out there are much smaller…
This is great! I disagree with Sheldon… Flippa is very well known. You should easily sell a few thousand licenses. I’ll buy one. Flippa has always been difficult to search though to find the best deals… and it looks like you may have solved this.
Whoa! This is totally unexpected, but completely fulfills the needs of A LOT of niche site builders.
It’s true that the data that Flippa displays for site listings isn’t very concise. If your software makes it easier to sift through the listings, I’d buy it in seconds.
This is awesome. I wish you the best of luck.
What features are different from Flippa’s own advance search functions?
The value proposition is in being able to quickly determine how a website is making money without even visiting the site.
So you can see what monetization methods are in place with (and I know it sounds cheesy) the push of a button. You just click the plus button and we go out and research the site for you so you don’t have to even go look at it..
At the same time it also tells you if the owner paid for high end link directories like Yahoo directory or BestOfTheWeb (signal of a more experienced marketer) or if they’ve gotten a really high value link from DMOZ.org (signal of a high quality website).
That type of data is important for determining both the value and real potential of the website (not just the “potential” that most people talk about in their listings)
Also you can do this same type of research on auctions that have ended as well. So you can reverse engineer sites that have sold for good money.
Then with all that together you can run Excel reports of all that data.
Hopefully that better states the value prop you’re getting when you buy the software (especially for something under $20)
Oh and of course if customers have suggestions for additional data they want then I’m of course open to improving it as well.
They usually have a website that will have games and activities for your child to play on.
I have a site that I need to unload…would going through Flippa be the best way, or does anyone else have a recommendation? Chris, it’s right up your alley, so if you’re interested, let me know…
getridofyourwebsite.com is my website if you’re looking to sell I’ll check it out ๐
Ha! I won an auction for my first website on flippa. Only $100. PR0 but I think I can really streamline and make it profitable. And it dovetails with one of my current sites, too. My journey to mogul status starts today. ๐
I recently looked around at Flippa and saw some interesting sites. But still, I’m unsure which to buy or if to buy any at all. Thanks for the article, very nice detailed info.
Hey Monja, did you have a specific niche in mind?
Great tool…I’m not at the point to where I can start buying and selling websites (or buying and building them up), but one day I will be able to, and I will definitely get this!
Website’s design doesn’t matter, The thing which matters most is domain name, If it’s good domain name than It would be costly domain name.
This software will definitely save tons of time for me ๐ However, does it require too much internet connection?
Great software dude, its so sad that paypal and Escrow is not allowed by my country, i wish i have way to go about playing around as non paypal and escrow country? i would have bought this software
Wow, this tool is going to save me loads of time!
Hi, Chris
This is indeed a great tool. Just some comments, how true are the data??
some data like PR value, how do vertify it’s true?
My understanding is that some may be fake?? Need to check thru google search??
That’s my concern??
Tks.
Hey Jeff,
The data is pulled from Flippa so the data is “real” but yes some stats can be influenced. It’s best to think of the tool as something that helps cut through the crap on the first pass so you can focus on the ones that pass the initial quality you want. Then you can perform due diligence on those that are remaining.
