July has come to a close and the summer drop is in full swing and now it’s time for another income report. You can click the “Continue reading…” link here or below to skip right to the goods, but for those that are new to my blog I like to include this disclaimer: These income reports aren’t meant to brag at all as many people make considerably more money than me, instead I’m trying to use this as a means to help motivate myself to reach my goal of $150k in 2010 while at the same time keeping me publicly accountable. With that said, let’s get onto the earnings:
Income Graph:
Income Analysis:
In the spirit of brevity I’ve decided to change up the way I run my income reports and instead of going through every single source and writing about it I will just explain the income as a whole in a single section here:
My biggest earner of the month was the Amazon Associates program with $3,730.26 which took up 84% of my total income. I’m down about $1,000 from last month’s Amazon earnings, but I’m not too concerned as July is the traditionally the worst month in the website industry because it’s the heart of Summer. Companies rarely release new products during July and there isn’t as much to talk about. August is always better as near the end of the month back to school shopping is in full swing and I’m prepared to earn money during those sales. I have numerous people email me every day asking for more details on how I earn money with Amazon’s Associates program and because of the requests I am releasing a free eBook in just a few days which outlines a lot of information that you can use to make money with Amazon. The only way to get the eBook is to (subscribe to my free newsletter). You can also get a few tips by reading these articles: Top 7 tips and 5 Worst Ways.
All other income sources are down along with Amazon this month due to the summer slow down, but things will really start going great as we move into the fall.
Plans for Next Month:
In addition to the free eBook sharing how to make money with Amazon.com I’m releasing a paid course that dives into much greater detail on how I make money with Amazon.com. The price is not announced yet, but I will be using ClickBank as the way to sell it. That means, if you’re interested in being an affiliate simply sign up for Clickbank (if you don’t already have an account) and then I’ve set up an affiliates newsletter which will include the details as to when you can start promoting it and other details etc.
I believe the course I’m putting together will be very good and should sell very well based off the initial feedback I’ve had on my the free eBook I’ve been putting together. I also think that fact that I actually make legit money from Amazon.com differentiates me from the other people selling similar products / make money online products in general. I’ll show a live video of me logging into my Amazon affiliate account just to prove to the naysayers that I’m legit as well.
Stick Around:
My iPhone application should be finished before the end of the month and I’ll be documenting that process and how well it sells which should make for an interesting case study this month. As I mentioned before I’m also releasing my free eBook on how to make money with Amazon.com.
You can conveniently sign up for my newsletter below and in doing so you’ll receive my first free eBook on my top ways to make money online along with 3 free WordPress themes just for joining:
Always interesting to read your monthly income reports. I also wouldn’t be worried about your “down” month for two reasons: 1) Like you said, July is a poor month for internet consumer product sales, and 2) Your Amazon course will probably be a big success, so you have that future income to look forward to. It’ll be interesting to read your income reports post-Amazon course release, if you plan on including that income.
Hey Eric,
Yah I probably will include that income as my goal for this year has been full disclosure. If it sells well it’s also another bonus as perhaps people would be more likely to buy it if they see it’s selling well.
I will probably cap it at like 100 spots so that I can get feedback, improve and relaunch but who knows – I’m new to this. All I know is that I have information I know is valuable enough for me to feel comfortable asking money for it.
Hey Chris,
Congrats on another successful month! Maybe you can include an expense report as well so that way at the end of the year, you have your accounting done ๐
Jimmy
Hey Jimmy, well the way I report the income on the blog is different than how I do my accounting. For accounting I only report the income once it’s deposited in my account and for the blog I report the income based on last month’s results (so that it’s easier to track progress / changes for both myself and for readers that have been following along).
As for expenses, last month I bought a website for less than $1k, I bought an $800 DSLR as a business expense but also for a new blog project and then I have about $300 in hosting. So I spent a good chunk of money but I had into the 5 figures in my business account to spend on stuff.
Still a pretty impressive income, Chris. I’m sure you’ll more than make up for any summer lag in December.
I just signed up for your affiliate e-mail list. I think your program could fit in pretty well with something I’m planning on my blog for the future.
Oh.. by the way, I just made my first Amazon commission today thanks to some tips I learned from your blog. Thanks, man!
That’s great news Clayton! Nice to meet you a few weeks ago too. Let me know if you want to meet up again sometime. I think we could perhaps do another meetup in Seattle for people that are earning decent money online instead of just people that are still trying to get started.
Hey Chris, nice post and earnings. I visit your blog often and I see this wasn’t a normal month for you. I know most of the time you generate about an extra $1,000 to $2,000 more than that. I do believe it is because of the summer. I am glad it is ending though, time to rake in sales and get focused on the holidays..
Yah, I’m ready for August and onward. This should be a great time of the year and I’m planning on doing more than I did last year (hopefully).
And I thought I had done well with my almost $300. ๐
Do you do this full time now? July was my first month switching from part time hobby to full time job. ๐
I have been full time since October of last year. I pretty much work about 4 hours a day now and earn more money than the full time job I had before. I love it ๐
Really great and impressive earnings Chris!
I would love to promote your ecourse but unfortunately clickbank does not support Nigerians. What do you think?
Thanks a lot for the great post,
-Onibalusi
That’s too bad they don’t allow you… hmmm.
Great earnings. Look forward to reading your ebook. If i didn’t read wrongly, in your previous post, you were saying the total amazon incomes where coming from your 20+ niche websites. (correct me if i’m wrong). Wonder how you manage your time to write contents for all of them ๐ Need to learn from you. Will you explain that in your coming ebook? Great day.
I noticed a drop in July as well. The first week was bad, but then it climbed back up. It ended up being about 10% off from last month.
I’m excited to see what your ebook will contain. It sounds like good stuff. ๐ Congrats on the earnings.
I’m nearly done with it. I plan to release it this week.
These are some good earnings. I had a reduction in income from Amazon so it is good to know that my theories on it being linked to the holiday season were correct!
Yes the summer months are typically the worst with the fall months and early year months being the best.
It is very inspiring to see someone who are making more from the internet.
Chris, your Amazon income is simply amazing – you have me beat, waaaaay beat.
Looking forward to the report. Currently, the earnings teetering and I’d love to expand upon them.
Keep up the great work!
Don’t worry about is as a competition ๐
Almost every single internet entrepreneur I’ve met in person makes more money than me sometimes just two to three times more but other times it can be more like 100x more than me.
2 cents
Good to see you Chris. You are still making more money than me:) But except from general thoughts i made more money from Amazon last month than my other months. Although, my earnings could not race with yours, last month i saw nearly %100 increase in my Amazon earnings. I do not know the exact reason, but i hope it lasts long:)
I always like your monthly report Chris, and you’re doing an awesome job sustaining that steady income of more than $4k/month.
I’ve noticed that during your past monthly reports, you’re really making it big from Amazon’s affiliate program, and it’s not easy to rake in a steady amount of cash as an affiliate compare to if you’re selling your own product.
Regards,
Gary
I see you too get most of your income from Amazon. I did too, until recently when Amazon banned me and 80% of what i made is now gone. I’ve been trying to get in touch with their affiliate support for 3 weeks, no luck, althouhg I’ve tried emailing and contacting them be phone. On the phone they say they’ll get to me by mail, and nothing happens.
Still, that made me realize how risky is it having most of your eggs in one basket. And in the fact the entire making money online thing, it can crumble in just seconds like a deck of cards.
So I’m now trying to detach from Amazon as much as possible and seek other affiliate programs to replace them. especially after reading some older posts from high earners who also got their accounts banned by Amazon for stupid reasons.
Send a link to the posts you’ve seen from people that got banned? I always just suggest to read through their TOS and Operating Agreement before you try anything new and to email them before implementing something that might be questionable…
That’s the fun of the internet though. I work when I want, how hard I want and I don’t have to get up unless I want to. There is always risk to what we do because there are factors outside our control at all times.
There are plenty of things I am doing besides Amazon right now as well…
See these:
http://joelcomm.com/amazoncom-closed-my-associate.html
http://www.mattharward.com/2007/09/12/my-amazoncom-associates-nightmare/
Slightly older, but i can guarantee nothing changed. My account got closed for the same reason as it did on Matts post, and not got over 20K unpaid and blocked. And I’m pretty confident i’m not going to get them back ๐
Hmmmm, yah that doesn’t look good but based on the way he’s phrasing his complaints it looks like he was using some type of software that would get installed on people’s computers and then he’d probably inject some type of tracking cookie.
That’s the thing – you have to be absolutely certain that you don’t violate their terms of service or operating agreement. As soon as I see an email that says they’ve updated their TOS I immediately go and read what’s changed and adjust accordingly.
Whenever you aren’t sure of something – email them. I did this the other day and yes it took me 4 tries to get someone that knew what I was asking but the answer was a no that I could not do it. If I hadn’t taken the time to email I could have went ahead and started doing it and then gotten in trouble.
I see your concerns though but everything I do is as legit as possible. Build a website that’s good. Put links on it. Make money.
I don’t run any campaigns through like a search engine and drive traffic to Amazon that way, I don’t install any software on people’s computers etc. etc.
[…] Make Money on the Internet Income Report July 2010 […]
Have joined your list just so I can read this new book! Eagerly awaiting launch!
Hi Chris,
How many sites running Amazon products contribute to the Amazon Affiliate Program dollars($$) total?
In other words, how many sites do you run — 5, 10, 20, 30 sites — with Amazon products to earn that figure?
Do you run a “mother” site? If so how many mother sites? How many “mini” or “baby” sites (if any) link back to each of the mother sites?
Also, do you run Google Adsense on each of those sites?
Thanks,
Dianne
This is something I’ll cover in my Amazon course; however, you shouldn’t think in terms of how much because all niches are different. I know dozens of domains that if I had my hands on them the site could make mid 5 figures per month after I ranked them in Google.
Great Amazon income. I wish they still let affiliates in Colorado make money.
That’s a pretty nice income and I’m SO happy to see another blogger like myself that actually list their income! So many of them teach and preach about making money online, but they never show exactly how THEY are doing it. Keep up the great work and all the best with your earnings this month!
Interesting report, Chris. Seems like you are making a nice amount of money. I hope I will at least make $300 a month soon. But we will see.
It really motivates me to try harder after looking at your earnings. I do alot of affiliate marketing and earn enough to have a simple and good life. It’s always room for more and development, why don’t you come up with your own physical product Chris?
Working on one right now ๐
Chris,
Did you finish up the new free E-book? I’m a subscriber but I haven’t seen an email about it – perhaps it went to my spam folder? You said in this post it would be ready in a few days but it’s been two weeks.
Good luck with your new course.
Paul
Hey Paul, yes I’m sorry for the delay. Please check out today’s post for more details ๐
Hey Chris, your Amazon sales are very encouraging and have got me thinking about diversifying into other networks. Am a clickbank “addict” but seeing what you are earning here am inclined to try this!
Hey Dennis,
I’m passing out my free eBook any day now and I also have a paid course which provides considerably more detail. So be on the lookout for that and you’ll learn what you need to know to get off to a great start.
Chris
Chris,
So how long did it take you to get to this income level ? – like when did you make your 1st Amazon site ? (i have been reading your blog and it just not %100 clear to me)
And from when you started how long did it take you to reach $1000 a month ?
How big is your staff that you have working for you now ?
sorry i ment to post this on your latest income report! :/
I haven’t done a new one in a while because I’m starting to make money from additional sources that I don’t want to share with people publicly (since several of them are through a partnership). I also have friends that read my blog and it gets awkward if I say “Hey I just made $10k last month” or whatever when I know they make less.
Yes I can see how some of your friends might have some interesting comments about some of your blog posts ๐
I’ve been trying and primarily failing at making money online for a long time. It wasn’t until I start focusing on product oriented websites and used Amazon’s affiliate program that I began to make good money. It was less than 6 months after I did product type websites that I broke $1k a month.
I have one full time outsourced employee but am looking at hiring another.
And all of the strategy’s you have used are in your Niche Profit Course ? ?
Are you still making new amazon sites? or for now you are just feeding off the ones you have already in place ?
I’m always making new sites and/or buying ones. The stuff I’m talking about still works and should still work for the next several years.
