Last month I gave an income update on how I was progressing towards my goal of self employment. Thankfully, this month was even better as I had my highest earning month yet coming in at $5,087.71 in total. I’m very excited as this marks the first time I broke the $5,000 barrier! I’d love to see this trend continue upwards; however, I believe there is a chance I won’t break $5,000 again next month. This is largely due to the fact that on one day I got a large surge in traffic to one of my sites and made about $2,000 as a result the traffic spike – I will share that story at a later date (hint: subscribe to my RSS feed to learn how I did it). In any case, regardless of how I made the money I’m very pleased with how things are shaping up and who knows, if I can keep this up I may just have to quit my job early.
In contrast to last month’s post where I didn’t divulge any details about where the money came from, today I would like to share how my income was split up between the various different sources.
Income Sources:
So as you can tell my number one earner is the Amazon Affiliate program coming in at $4343.74. This number is so large because I’ve learned a ton from testing and experimentation about how to make the most from Amazon’s traffic. The tips and tricks I’ve learned are really good and I haven’t read them anywhere else before so if you want to learn how to make more money on Amazon’s affiliate program subscribe to my RSS feed I’ll be sharing a lot of tips on my blog.
Putting My Eggs In One Basket
With 85% of my income coming from one source it stresses me out a lot knowing that Amazon decided to end their affiliate program in Hawaii, North Carolina and Rhode Island (Hawaii was recently re-instated though), so you can be sure I am looking for ways to improve the income from the other sources and brand new programs. I know with Google Adsense I haven’t even tried changing the placement of the ads or colors of the ads since I first started using them on my product related websites. I am in the process of signing an agreement to work with Pricegrabber, so I’ll keep you posted as to how that works out as well.
Wrap Up
I did not write this post to brag, instead I wrote it because I wanted to share what is possible. I’ve been running websites and trying to earn a full time income online for several years and after failure after failure after failure I’ve finally latched onto some good business models that have been working very well. It’s also really exciting to know that I have made more money on my websites this month than at my full time day job as a top sales representative. I know that if worst came to worst and I lost my job I would seriously consider running websites full time and saying goodbye to corporate life for good. But I don’t think I’ll consider doing that until I hit $10,000+ per month several months in a row ๐ and I don’t think that will happen until next year.
If you want to learn more about how I earn money online and can help you improve your online income be sure to subscribe to my blog’s RSS feed. I’ve already shared some of the tips I use to make money online in my free eBook – Make Money on Newsletters so be sure to download that for free.
WOW!! That is a good amount of income for the month. WIth regards to the Amazon thing, it is a bit of a bummer. I would say that don’t let it stress you out too much. If it does come to you not being able to use them anymore then just move on to something else. I am sure you will be able to find something appropriate. Good luck for this month and I hope you make a lot more than you did last month.
Chris,
Great blog post. I’m pretty sure transparency will be the key to get you
to the $10,000/mo level.
Like you I’ve been struggling… Hopefully my latest tactic to set goals and
declare them on my blog will help over the next 14 days.
Keep diversifying.
Rob
So what is your profit?
Hey Rob,
Do you run other sites? I think the one thing I would recommend is that you branch out of the MMO niche and build other sites.
As soon as I started doing that and spending less time here my earnings went up.
Geiger,
I have a dedicated server and a server management team for about $250. Other than that I don’t really have any other expenses. I am in the process of buying more domains and getting some new designs set up, but in the grand scheme of things if I wanted to stop doing that I could just sit on the profit.
So no advertising costs or PPC or anything like that?
Chris,
so it’s all organic huh?
I’ve basically taken the approach of just building good websites that people want to visit and tell their friends. I also use YouTube, Twitter etc. etc. all in an attempt to promote the sites I run through all marketing channels.
I have also spent a ton of time tweaking and testing the best way to make money on Amazon’s affiliate program which I’ll be sharing in future posts which lends itself well to making more money on less traffic.
But yah… I’ve never really tried PPC affiliate marketing before. I plan to eventually but right now I don’t have the time to focus on keeping track of campaigns throughout the day etc so instead I just focus on making good websites.
[…] Chris hat im Juli zugelegt und das liegt vor allem an Amazon. […]

Don’t worry, won’t steal any of your ideas, got no time;(
grats.

Hey Chris,
Man, those numbers are rocking!
I am sure, if you keep the spirit & ambition to reach 5k soaring higher & higher, that ain’t that difficult as I can say few things:
1. You have a system
2. You have the right approach & willingness to learn & risk.
Sure, you would do it again. All the best!
