Last month I gave an income update on how I was progressing towards my goal of self employment. Thankfully, this month was even better as I had my highest earning month yet coming in at $5,087.71 in total. I’m very excited as this marks the first time I broke the $5,000 barrier! I’d love to see this trend continue upwards; however, I believe there is a chance I won’t break $5,000 again next month. This is largely due to the fact that on one day I got a large surge in traffic to one of my sites and made about $2,000 as a result the traffic spike – I will share that story at a later date (hint: subscribe to my RSS feed to learn how I did it). In any case, regardless of how I made the money I’m very pleased with how things are shaping up and who knows, if I can keep this up I may just have to quit my job early.

In contrast to last month’s post where I didn’t divulge any details about where the money came from, today I would like to share how my income was split up between the various different sources.

Income Sources:

July-2009-Income-Graph

So as you can tell my number one earner is the Amazon Affiliate program coming in at $4343.74. This number is so large because I’ve learned a ton from testing and experimentation about how to make the most from Amazon’s traffic. The tips and tricks I’ve learned are really good and I haven’t read them anywhere else before so if you want to learn how to make more money on Amazon’s affiliate program subscribe to my RSS feed I’ll be sharing a lot of tips on my blog.

Putting My Eggs In One Basket

With 85% of my income coming from one source it stresses me out a lot knowing that Amazon decided to end their affiliate program in Hawaii, North Carolina and Rhode Island (Hawaii was recently re-instated though), so you can be sure I am looking for ways to improve the income from the other sources and brand new programs. I know with Google Adsense I haven’t even tried changing the placement of the ads or colors of the ads since I first started using them on my product related websites. I am in the process of signing an agreement to work with Pricegrabber, so I’ll keep you posted as to how that works out as well.

Wrap Up

I did not write this post to brag, instead I wrote it because I wanted to share what is possible. I’ve been running websites and trying to earn a full time income online for several years and after failure after failure after failure I’ve finally latched onto some good business models that have been working very well. It’s also really exciting to know that I have made more money on my websites this month than at my full time day job as a top sales representative. I know that if worst came to worst and I lost my job I would seriously consider running websites full time and saying goodbye to corporate life for good. But I don’t think I’ll consider doing that until I hit $10,000+ per month several months in a row ๐Ÿ™‚ and I don’t think that will happen until next year.
